Smoke-Free Environments

Smoke-Free Events
Local events are traditions that our community members count on year after year for entertainment and family fun. It is important that these events be safe so that people of all ages can enjoy them. Smoke-free events provide the opportunity to enjoy great Maine traditions without the risk of exposure to the dangers of secondhand smoke.

Congratulations to These Local Smoke-Free Events!

Other Smoke-Free Places
Maine is filled with parks and outdoor public areas to enjoy. Help keep them smoke-free this summer so everyone can enjoy them.

Secondhand smoke is more than just an annoyance. New research shows that the air within 20 feet of an outdoor smoker is as toxic as if they were smoking indoors.

When you are out in public spaces, help everyone breathe easy—avoid lighting up in parks and playgrounds and ask anyone who is to respect your right to breathe air free of hazardous chemicals

Help bring Smoke-Free places to your town!
Many towns in Maine have adopted Tobacco-Free ordinances for parks and other public spaces where people congregate. Ordinances like this make public spaces healthy and safe environments where children and families to play without the concern of secondhand smoke and tobacco litter.

To get started in your community, order a free Tobacco-Free Recreation Kit from the PTM Store. To learn more about making parks and public spaces in your town Smoke-Free, contact your local Healthy Maine Partnership
